Investigation, Exploration, Discovery

Early childhood programs need to be meaningful and responsive to the world in which children live.  They need to be relevant to them, to their age and their culture.  Gaining an understanding of their own community helps children to develop a sense of belonging and a strong self-image.

The aim of the program at New Horizons is to actively lead each individual into language and mathematical concepts, and to develop a greater understanding of the world in which they live.  We encourage children's natural curiosity about the world and demonstrate respect for the natural environment and living things.

Both formal and informal approaches are in place at New Horizons.  Generally a formal approach is used to introduce maths and language concepts, which are then followed up with a range of informal activities to assist learning and reinforce understanding.

Children are naturally curious and capable learners, and our days are constantly full of spontaneous learning experiences.  Investigating, exploring, questioning, thinking, inquiry, collaborative discussion & learning with excitement are all central to our curriculum.
